 Luís Carneiro Travel Award Minimize

The Luís Careiro Memorial Travel Fund was established to help international students attend the J.B. Johnston Club meeting. To apply, submit an application by email to Michael Black (biombb[at]langate.gsu.edu). The deadline for applications is Friday, 24 July 2009.

Requirements of the award: To be eligible, a student must be involved in current research at a university or research institute that is outside the United States and Cannada.

About the Fund: Luís Carneiro was a wonderful and valued supporter of the J.B. Johnston Club.  For many years he coordinated the publishers’ book display and subsequent give-away to his fellow graduate students.  In his honor and as a memorial, beginning in 2002, the graduate student coordinator of the book display has asked for two copies of each book from the publishers and we have given away one book to the grad students while “silently” auctioning off another copy.  The purpose of the auction was to raise funds in Luis’s memory to bring students from overseas to participate in the annual meeting of the J.B. Johnston Club.  Our travel fund has reached sufficient funds so that we can now offer an award to a deserving student from overseas.  The monetary award of at least $500 (potentially more as funds build up over time) is hoped to serve as an incentive and lower the barrier to students who would otherwise not be able to attend the JBJC meeting.

The major heroes in this effort are the publishers.  So, we would like to particularly thank:
